Publix Preconcert Lecture

“Get Inside the Music,” sponsored by Publix SuperMarkets

These informative, pre-concert talks are free to concert goers and provide insight into the music and artists performing that day. Talks are held in the Westcott Building, Room 060, last approximately 30 minutes, and begin at 7:00 p.m. before all Masterworks concerts.  Westcott 060 is accessible from the North-side entrance of Ruby Diamond Concert Hall.

Lunches with Miriam

Lunches with Miriam are a series of lunch gatherings where community members may hear Maestra Miriam Burns speak about upcoming performances and other interesting topics.  The lunches take place on concert weeks and often include performances by symphony musicians.  The Tallahassee Symphony Society hosts these lunches; for more information please visit the Tallahassee Symphony Society web page.

Open Rehearsals

Music lovers over the age of 10 are invited to observe the dress rehearsal for a performance of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra in Ruby Diamond Auditorium.  An adult chaperone is required for every student under the age of 14. When available, conductors and artists may speak with to attendees during the break or following the rehearsal.

An Open Rehearsal is a fascinating opportunity to watch the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra at work, and see how a piece of music is shaped and polished by the conductor and the musicians.

Please check back in September, 2011 for more specific information on the 2011-12 season open rehearsal dates and times.

Intermission Insights

Twice during the 2011-12 season, patrons will be delighted to hear our guest artist participate in an informal question-and-answer session in the auditorium during intermission. Interviews will be conducted by well-known and respected Tallahassee leaders.

The two guest artists who will be interviewed are:

  • Rachel Barton Pine: March 17, 2010, after she performs Bruch's Scottish Fantasy
  • Matthew Allen: April 28, 2010, after he performs Shostakovich's 1st Cello Concerto
