Hailing from the state of Texas, Dr. Allyson Royal is an alumna of Sam Houston State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Education. She furthered her musical journey at Florida State University, obtaining both her Master of Music and Doctor of Music degrees in String Performance.
Dr. Royal is an active performer in the music scene across Florida and southern Georgia. She currently performs with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, The Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, the Ocala Symphony Orchestra, and the Albany Symphony Orchestra as a section violist. Additionally, she proudly serves as the Principal violist for the Panama City Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Royal is the violist in the Mina Quartet, the resident quartet for the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. Committed to enriching music and string education, the quartet endeavors to craft engaging and inclusive programs for elementary and middle school students in Tallahassee.
Beyond her performances, Dr. Royal is a devoted educator, offering violin and viola lessons at Mason’s School of Music and through her private lesson studio. Her passion for nurturing young talent extends to her role as Viola Sectional Coach, Small Ensemble Coordinator, and Community Engagement Coordinator at the Tallahassee Youth Orchestra. She also shares her expertise as the String Orchestra Club instructor at Fairview Middle School.
Dr. Royal’s most recent endeavor, where she serves as the Co-Creator and Lead Teacher, is Murdock’s Lil’ Mozart’s—a tuition-free after-school violin program at Sabal Palm Elementary. With great anticipation, she looks forward to expanding this initiative to other elementary schools in Tallahassee, where access to string education is limited. Even though her latter degrees are in performance, Dr. Royal hopes to ignite a love for music in the younger generation.
