About the Performance

Born from the same Russian musical lineage, Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring reveal two radically different visions of expressive power. Tchaikovsky’s concerto, performed by Grammy-nominated pianist Joyce Yang, channels sweeping lyricism and heroic drama into one of the most iconic concertos ever written. Just a generation later, Stravinsky shatters expectations with raw rhythm, primal energy, and revolutionary orchestral color. Together, these works trace a thrilling arc from Romantic intensity to modernist upheaval, capturing Russia at the moment it changed the course of music forever.
